Richard Klein

LYNNWOOD – Richard Robert Klein of Seattle died Jan. 18, 2023, in Lynnwood. He was 89.

Born July 15, 1933, in Cambridge, Mass., to Francis & Matilda Klein. The family moved to Seattle when he was 3 years old. He attended Highland Park Elementary and graduated from West Seattle High School in 1953. He served in the Navy as helmsman abord the USS Walke, part of the U.S. 7th fleet patrolling the waters in and around Asia. He worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in West Seattle for 26 years.

He married Patricia Melia on Dec. 1, 1973, in Seattle, becoming stepfather to her children, who were 8 and 13.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his cabin on Lake Cavanaugh.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Klein and his siblings Frank, George, Adele, Mary and Dorothy.

He is survived by his son William (Jennifer) Metz, daughter Margaret Metz, grandchildren Edmund Holland and Kayla Thom, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at Harvey Family Funeral Home Chapel in Seattle. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Feb. 10 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Seattle. Interment will be Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.
