Northwest Catholic Audit

Why is Northwest Catholic Audited?
An audit statement offers detailed information about a publication’s press run, distribution and circulation. Circulation Verification Council (CVC) is an independent, third-party reporting audit company. CVC verifies that Northwest Catholic is reaching readers and covering the area that we claim. CVC audits cover printing, distribution, circulation, websites, digital editions, mobile, email, social media and readership studies to give an accurate picture of a publication’s reach and market penetration.

Advertising Policies

Northwest Catholic does not accept advertisements for products or services that are contrary to Catholic teaching or from entities that -- in the judgment of the magazine’s management -- have as their primary focus those products or services. Northwest Catholic retains the right to edit or reject all advertising copy.

Ad space reservation is considered a binding contract. Changing the ad size or cancelling after the advertising reservation deadline will result in the Advertiser being billed for the full amount. It is understood by the Advertiser that the dollar amount contracted for, in each issue contracted for, is due regardless of Advertiser’s business closure, business location change, event cancellation, or any other adverse event that might otherwise prohibit the Advertiser from the intended benefits of advertising in Northwest Catholic.

Northwest Catholic wishes to foster the participation of Catholics in the political process. (Yet, to retain its non-profit tax status, the magazine must choose whether to accept political advertisements from all candidates -- regardless of how their positions relate to church teaching -- or to reject all such advertisements. Selective acceptance is not an option.) Due to the complexity of moral and political issues today, the acceptance of advertisements from politicians whose positions may be at variance with various Church teachings stands to confuse our readers. Therefore, it is Northwest Catholic's policy to decline all political advertisements.

Events advertised in Northwest Catholic require parish/archdiocesan sponsorship. Non-parish events may be advertised in Northwest Catholic if the sponsoring agency requests approval in advance from the Vicar for Clergy or other office within the Archdiocese of Seattle.

Northwest Catholic does not accept advertisements in the form of essays expressing the advertiser's views on controversial issues or promoting an agenda, rather than announcing an event or offering a product or service for sale. If an advertisement for goods or services appears to be an article, it must be identified as a "paid advertisement." Ads may not contain "bylines" or "datelines."

Northwest Catholic does not take advertisements that – in the judgment of management – are in poor taste; manipulative; deceptive; or intended to frighten, shock or in any way take advantage of the magazines' readers. All advertisements must show respect for persons and for the truth. If it comes to our attention that an advertiser has not been truthful, the advertisement will be discontinued.

Northwest Catholic will not accept "personal" ads related to dating or ads for private adoptions. Acceptance of other ads of a personal nature will be subject to the discretion of management.
